Destiny 2 — What is Strand?
A New Subclass
Bungie recently revealed Strand, a new darkness subclass set to debut in Lightfall early February 2023. Today we take a peek behind the veil, and how Strand existed seasons ago!
Every player in Destiny, is on tender-hooks about Strand, a strange green energy, formed from the nature of the darkness itself. Yet none have put two, and two together, surrounding the mysterious new subclass.
So what is Strand?
If you are looking within the pages of Destiny lore, you may stumble on multiple trails of breadcrumbs leading to a number of possible conclusion.
But in order for you to understand what Strand is, I thought it would sense make to explain what a Splicer is, within the Destiny universe. For those unfamiliar with this term; The Eliksni referred to this group, as sacred splicers. Eliksni gifted with the ability to touch the light rippling through Vex networks, the wind through the grass, and the motion of galaxies. This allows Splicers to see into the Vex domain.
There are a lot of similarities, or perhaps fore-bearing of Splicers to Strand, and here’s why. During the Season of The Splicer, Guardians were led by Mithrax to splice directly into the Vex network. This mission was called “Expunge”.
The goal was simple, to breach the space between reality and possibility. Where matter meets will, and bends in a prism of Light. A reality where only the Vex have ever been.
During this mission, you will have noticed the colour green is present throughout the entire domain, illuminating, revealing, and being transformed by the mind of each Guardian that enters.
As I stated before, no one knows whether this is true or not, but after I spent several hours reading, and researching through lore, my conclusions have led here.
Introduction to Strand
Strand is a subclass all about consciousness, a psychic energy that forms the extra dimension, a matrix connecting all things together, connecting all living beings and all minds.
The ability to peer into an alternate physic universe and begin to pull at the threads that connect all living beings. Granting wielders a third eye, peeling back reality, grasping those connections and weaving them into new objects. As the light lives in all places, so too is the universe connected.
I wonder if this is where, The Nine said; “Their attention was required elsewhere”? Maybe it’s Neomuna, they could have been aware of Humanity on other worlds this entire time. (Cue spinfoil-theory)
Strand is a brand-new subclass that has never been discovered before. And Bungie states that when we enter into Lightfall it will be the first time the Guardian has discovered a subclass completely on their own.
Guardians will learn how to shape, manipulate, and use it against all forces of evil in Destiny. Unlike all light subclasses, Strand is a power that originates from the Darkness, but with a heavy emphasis on consciousness.
With the amalgamation of subclasses already in their 3.0 versions. There is no telling what to expect from Lightfall and Season of [Redacted]. I don’t know about you! But I am incredibly excited to visit a new Solar system, and wield a new subclass that’s out of this world.
